The ITV show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returned with the contestants including Danny Miller, a soap actor (Aaron in Emmerdale) in a long list of others who’ve gone before him.

These stars always attract viewers to reality shows because soap drama is our most popular form of TV entertainment. But which is the most successful soap when it comes to a diet of rice and beans, eating critters and being holed up with snakes?

EastEnders has had the most representatives, 16, of which three were winners – Joe Swash (Micky) in 2008, Charlie Brooks (Janine) in 2012, and Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren) in 2019. Corrie has had nine entries but zero winners, while Emmerdale has had only five entries and no winners, though the latter show has the best average finishing position for its actors of the three soaps.

When stars take time out to appear elsewhere, expect to see major gaps in soap storylines featuring their characters. And given the misery the poor Soaplanders go through in their everyday lives in Walford, Weatherfield and Emmerdale, who can blame them for craving escape.

EASTENDERS: ANOTHER LOVERS’ TIFF

Aaron is such a wide boy, I’ve had to upgrade to a 75in TV just to accommodate him. In an effort to ingratiate himself with Tiffany, he complains about the woke brigade cancelling the nativity, but Keegan overhears and berates Tiffany for listening to Aaron’s rubbish.

It’s hard to comprehend how Tiffany is being taken in by Aaron, but after sharing a petition on her page, events rapidly go downhill.

Despite still having feelings for his wife, Keegan asks for a divorce (no breakfast at Tiffany’s then), and when Tiffany signs the papers, is it the end (it has to be, Maisie Smith is leaving the show; talk about a forced exit)?

Aaron is also there for his dad, offering advice for his date with Jean. That’s like consulting the Henry VIII manual Making Marriage Work. Jean, meanwhile, takes tips from Eve, an ex-con with a drink problem.
