They may be the world's most successful children's band, but The Wiggles didn't quite hit the right note with soccer fans.

On Saturday, the musical group took centre stage for the first time since expanding the group's line-up to perform a set at the Australia (Matildas) versus the US Women's National Team soccer match.

The performance marks the group's first live public introducing new yellow Wiggles Tsehay Hawkins and Kelly Hamilton, purple Wiggle John Pearce and blue Wiggle Evie Ferris.

Dressed in full Wiggles garb, the band performed a series of their hit songs as well as the Australian national anthem.

Unfortunately, many fans took to social media to express a less-than-stellar review of the anthem performance, with some blaming the rendition for the Matildas' disastrous performance on the field.

'I'm blaming The Wiggles. You don't start a game with The Wiggles. That's all I'm saying,' one fan tweeted.

'Who the f**k thought The Wiggles was a good idea?' a second added.

'Did the yellow wiggles trade places with the centre backs? A lot of Hot Potato playing of the ball at the moment,' wrote another.

A fourth agreed, 'Of course we go down 1-0 in 24 seconds after the players spending the previous 4 Minutes trying not to piss themselves laughing at The Wiggles putrid attempt at singing the National Anthem.'
