'Goodbye Weekend Today,' she began in a solemn tone.

'And just like that, that's a wrap as my time on Weekend Today. Honestly, this job has been a dream and it was almost impossible to walk away from.'

She said she tried to work seven days a week but the workload became too much for her - which is why she's leaving.

'I tried with every part of me to work 7 mornings a week but it's time I get some balance. I'm genuinely so sad to be leaving,' she continued.

She went on to say she has been in a number of sticky situations on the show - which she will look back fondly on.

'I've milked camels, been stood on by a cow, hiked mountains, almost frozen in lake Wanaka, driven a monster truck and been attacked my more birds than I can count.'

She finished: 'I've loved every moment of it. Thank you for letting me share your weekends with you. It's been an absolute privilege.'

Lauren announced she would be leaving the breakfast show to focus on her radio career in an interview with the Herald Sun this week.
