Peter had started his run at the network in November 2000, just a few months after Maisie was born.

'It's an interesting milestone, something I never thought I'd get to and to be the longest serving news presenter at Seven is something I'm very proud of,' he told The Herald Sun on Sunday.

He added: 'It's been a wild ride, no doubt about it, never a dull moment.'
