Nigerian singer Wizkid paid tribute to late fashion visionary Virgil Abloh at his sold-out gig at London's O2 Arena on Sunday evening.

The hitmaker, 31, real name Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, honoured the designer with his name in lights just hours after Louis Vuitton chief executive Bernard Arnault confirmed he had passed away aged 41 following a secret three year cancer battle.

Over the sound of piano music, Wizkid said to the heaving crowd: 'Tonight, this shows you how short life is. Time is crazy man.'

While Wizkid was on-stage paying tribute, chaos reigned off-stage as  dozens of music fans dramatically stormed the former Millenium Dome, smashing down security scanners and pushing past guards.

On Sunday, Virgil's family issued a statement about his death on Instagram, writing that 'for over two years, Virgil battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma: 'He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019'.

Hours later, Wizkid took to the stage for the eagerly-anticipated concert where he stood before the tribute reading: Rest In Peace. Virgil, Abloh. 1980-2021'.

He followed in the steps of fellow hitmakers Drake and Kanye West in honouring the late fashion maven as well as supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid.

His tribute came as a crowd of revellers forced their way through the security gates to watch the Nigerian singer at one of three sold-out concerts.
