After earning rave reviews for her first ever film performance in director Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake, Rachel Zegler has taken home her first award.
The 20-year-old actress, who beat out more than 30,000 other hopeful actresses to win the iconic role of Maria, was named Best Actress by the National Board of Review on Thursday, one of the major early indicators for awards season.
West Side Story was also named one of the 10 best films of the year by organization, with all of the awards to be handed out at its annual gala on Tuesday, January 11.

Zegler responded in a tweet, with an image that featured all of the winners announced by the NBR on Thursday.
'Oh my God. Thank you, @NBRFilm,' Zegler tweeted on Thursday afternoon, which received over 2K likes.
The win comes just hours after she appeared on Good Morning America in New York City, and just days after the film's premiere in the Big Apple.
