Tevita Pangai Jr is swapping the footy field for the boxing ring in his first professional fight on Saturday in honour of his stillborn daughter, Georgia.

Ahead of his arrival in Sydney to join the Canterbury Bulldogs on Monday, he will go up against against Gerico Cecil in Brisbane.

The 25-year-old will wear boxing trunks with his late daughter's initials, GLGP for Georgia Lose Galilee Pangai, across the front after losing her back in August.

He told The Daily Telegraph: 'Getting let go by the Broncos, losing my daughter and then missing the grand final as well, it's been tough. 

Through all the struggles so far, he was grateful he and his wife Anna supported each other.

The NRL star also said he hopes to bring awareness to how common miscarriage and stillbirth is following their own experience and conversations with nurses.
