Italian-American model Fabio Lanzoni, known around the globe as just Fabio, cashed in on his looks as a romance novel cover star throughout the eighties and nineties.

And the 62-year-old, who is known for his chiselled chest and long flowing mane, is now using his experience in the industry for the greater good - giving away $1million worth of free beauty products for Aussie men to raise mental health awareness. 

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia last week, Fabio, who has collaborated with Aussie entrepreneurs Liam Robinson and Daniel Phillips for their Aston James line, revealed the secrets behind his youthful looks and (even shared his iconic love tips too!).

Fabio surprisingly revealed he's fuss-free when it comes to beauty, not washing his hair everyday and only 'using the most organic products'.  

He considers the 'foundation of life' to be finding a 'balance between mind, body and soul' and likened the process to keeping a car in check. 

'You have to take care of the engine, you have to take care of the body, also the wheel. You could have the best beautiful engine and the most beautiful body, but if you forget the wheels, you're flat, you don't go anywhere,' he said.

'It's the whole package. You have to find the balance between mind, body and soul. That's the foundation of life.'  

Born in Italy in 1959, Fabio started as a model and actor in his native country before moving to New York City to focus on fashion modelling.

In addition to gracing the covers of hundreds of romance novels, the genetically blessed Italian has served as a spokesman for a variety of brands, including I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! and Old Spice.

Fabio on finding an Aussie wife: 

'They're down-to-earth. Living in a city like Los Angeles, it's 'me me me me me' ... I always have a good experience with Australian women.

'To me as a man, that's a real woman. They're sophisticated, they're beautiful inside, they're beautiful outside.'

He surprisingly takes a balanced approach when it comes to diet and exercise, starting the day with oatmeal, berries and egg whites, followed by fish with vegetables or salad for lunch and something light with rice or quinoa for dinner. 

While he steers clear of booze, he does allow himself to indulge in pasta on occasion during the day before heading to the gym in the afternoon for a weights session.
