Melanie Lynskey has revealed that she was body-shamed on the set of her Showtime series Yellowjackets.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 44-year-old actress recounted the incident, in which a member of the production staff approached her during filming.

'They were asking me, "What do you plan to do?' I'm sure the producers will get you a trainer. They'd love to help you with this," Melanie told the publication.

According to the magazine, the New Zealand native's co-stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress swiftly came to her defense.

In addition, Juliette took the extra step of writing a letter to the show's producers on Melanie's behalf.

The star, who plays bored housewife and mother Shauna Sadecki on the hit psychological drama, explained that it was important for her to be able to portray her character in a body positive way.

'It was really important to me for her to not ever comment on my body, to not have me putting a dress on and being like, "I wish I looked a bit better,"' Melanie noted.

She went on to say that she wanted women who saw themselves in her character to feel confident about their bodies.

Melanie said, 'I did find it important that this character is just comfortable and sexual and not thinking or talking about it, because I want women to be able to to watch it and be like, "Wow, she looks like me and nobody's saying she's the fat one."'  

She added, 'That representation is important.'
