Simon Cowell's brother Tony has discussed the music mogul's Christmas Eve engagement to Lauren Silverman.

Speaking with Best magazine, the writer, 71, said that the Britain's Got Talent judge's new fiancee Lauren, 44. told him about the happy news at 4:30am following the shock proposal.

He also shared that their late mother Julie - who died in 2015 - would have been 'overjoyed' with the news and that she always wanted Simon, 62, to settle down.

He said: 'When I first heard the news from Lauren (Silverman), at 4.30am, I immediately thought of our mum, Julie. 

'She would have been overjoyed with the news, and it’s sad to think she is not here to see her son finally tie the knot. She always wanted him to settle down with a family. I picture her looking down and saying, "and about time, Simon!"' 

He then went onto reveal that Lauren told him that Simon proposed to her on Christmas Eve in Barbados. 

He said: 'Lauren tells me Simon proposed to her on Christmas Eve in Barbados; and she said, "I am so happy." To be honest, I’m not surprised by the news. Since having his son, Eric, with Lauren, Simon has completely changed his life and, for the first time, he appears to be happy and content.'

Tony also shared his thoughts on what the wedding might be, including that he thinks that it will take place in London, and while Lauren may want a glitzy showbiz wedding, while Simon may want to keep it private. 

'It will be interesting to see whether Simon will choose a lavish showbiz wedding, or a quiet family affair. Lauren may well favour a glitzy celebrity do. But I’m certain Simon would be happier with a private ceremony. 

'I’m sure the wedding will be held in London. As for the date, well I’ve not been told that, yet. 

He went on, revealing that Psychic Sally has predicted a that the big day will be in May.
