Triple M Breakfast co-host Xavier Ellis has unleashed upon an anonymous online troll who 'fat shamed' him on Instagram over the weekend.

The former AFL star, 33, had posted two Instagram photos of himself shirtless on Saturday, one of which showed him lying in bed nursing a hangover, while his two young sons danced around the bed.

Another photo showed Xavier looking rather weary as he posed with one of his sons.

It wasn't long before one Instagram user piped up with some unsolicited health advice.

'Wake up to yourself Ellis. Get off the carbs and start living for the sake of your little boys,' the user wrote.

Clearly fired up, Xavier commented back:  'Apologies for having a beer at a best mates wedding last night. Unless you’re a stay at home father, I reckon pound for pound I might be going okay with effort and time spent with kids.'

Responding, the user insisted that they 'never intended' to say Xavier wasn't 'a good dad', but rather hoped to encourage the former sportsman to embrace a 'clean diet.

'Hey it's OK to drink a beer but you should try a few vodka lime sodas pal. You will feel better everyday losing a few kgs and with the loss of excess weight you will not only look better but you will be able to do more.' they wrote.

'I'm just saying there is a better way. I suggest you explore it.
