The 42-year-old told Men's Health, he never met his father who moved to Asia when he was a child and rebuilt munitions factories. Ed's father, Charles Keith Hyland, was 65 years old when Ed was born and refused to be involved in his son's life. 'I knew he died because I was 11 years old and we were living at my aunty's. She came down to breakfast, put a Daily Telegraph in front of me and said "Your father has died. Here's a photograph of him and here is a story about him",' he said. 'That was the first and last time I ever knew of him.' Pictured Ed, wife Tiffiny Hall and their son Ed previously said that he never felt his father's absence because his mother did 'an amazing job' as a single parent. He also revealed Charles was born in 1914 and there was a significant age gap between his father and mother. '[He was born] in 1914 and I was born in 1979 which means he was 65 when I was born, which makes him an older parent,' Ed recalled on Hughesy & Kate's radio show. The radio host also recalled the moment he learnt his father had passed away and said a photo in a newspaper article was the 'first and last time I ever knew of him' 'It took a fair amount of court cases for him to admit it, though.' According to Ed, his father wouldn't acknowledge him until there was a paternity test that proved they were related. He concluded by saying that Charles 'never paid a cent' towards his upbringing and he will always remain indebted to his mother.
