Tom Cruise reportedly banned the Top Gun: Maverick crew from indulging in a few bevvies, despite it being perfectly acceptable to 'go drinking' on most sets.

A source told The Mirror: 'On most sets, the cast and crew socialise and go drinking but on Top Gun, they were told to keep partying to a minimum.'

The Pennsylvania-native, who plays Bradley Bradshaw in the picture, said: 'The next day I had flight training in 100C heat. That was rough.'

The Oscar nominee's strict orders have clearly paid off because film critics have been hailing the upcoming movie as a triumphant return for Tom, praising the actor's awe-inspiring stunts flying an actual fighter jet.

The sequel to Tony Scott's classic 1986 blockbuster has been unanimously praised in early reviews with one even declaring that it 'improves upon the original in every conceivable way.'
