Some of the country's biggest names have reacted to the Labor Party's election win as Anthony Albanese becomes Australia's 31st Prime Minister.

Comedian Magda Szubanski savagely took down outgoing Prime Minister Scott Morrison in a number of Tweets on Sunday, while actor and filmmaker Brendan Cowell roasted Mr Morrison over his love for the NRL's Cronulla Sharks.

Mr Albanese will be sworn in as Prime Minister after winning at least nine seats from the Liberal Party.

Magda, 61, told her followers that she hasn't felt this 'happy since marriage equality'. 

'Last night Australia showed that (despite the efforts of some) we are not a nation of Trump wannabes, We like good governance, the rule of law and idealistic/compassionate pragmatism,' she Tweeted.

'I haven't felt this relieved/happy since marriage equality.'

Meanwhile, Brendan, 45, who was born in Cronulla in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, took to his Instagram Stories on Saturday and roasted Mr Morrison.

Mr Morrison often showed his support for the team after he became a member for Cook in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.

'Once again - I am the Cronulla Sharks number one ticket holder - Australia has spoken,' Brendan captioned a video of himself sitting in the crowd at an NRL game.
