Yasmin Finney has admitted that it feels 'surreal' to be acting alongside huge stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate as they continue to film scenes for Doctor Who.

The actress, 18, who will play Rose, has been shooting for the 60th anniversary episode in London with returning Time Lord David, 51, and Catherine, 52, who will star once again as companion Donna.

And Yasmin, who recently shot to fame starring as Elle Argent on Netflix's LGBTQ+ series Heartstopper, revealed she has been starstruck at filming alongside the pair.

She said she grew up watching David and Catherine in Doctor Who, having been a baby when the Broadchurch star took over as The Doctor from Christopher Eccleston in 2005.

Having been a longtime fan of the hit BBC franchise, Yasmin admitted it has been 'a bit surreal' shooting scenes with David and Catherine on her second ever TV job.

She told The Guardian: 'It's insane and I'm learning so much.'

She has been spotted shooting scenes in London this month, with tense pictures showing Yasmin standing closely beside David as he held up a sonic screwdriver.

Speculation has been rife around how David's Doctor and Catherine's Donna Noble will be reunited, after her memory was wiped of their adventures in devastating scenes 14 years ago.

Yasmin has joined the pair as character Rose in a nod to Billie Piper's stint as the companion to both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston's Doctors.

Speaking of being cast by returning showrunner Russell T Davies, Yasmin admitted that she couldn't believe she was recognised by the 'legendary' writer.

'I am in awe of the fact that I've been seen by such a legend,' she added.

Yasmin said she heard about the Doctor Who role from Heartstopper director Euros Lyn, who collaborated on several episodes of the show and directed the third series of spin-off Torchwood, starring John Barrowman.

She said Euros, 51, recommended her to Doctor Who producers after learning they were looking for a transgender woman to star in the sci-fi series.

Yasmin's role on Doctor Who is her second ever TV job, having shot to fame starring as Elle Argent in hit Netflix LGBTQIA+ teen romance Heartstopper, which was released on the streaming platform last month.

The star said she knew she would land the job on the series, based off Alice Oseman's comic books, because it was a 'calling' for her.

She said: 'There was no way anybody else could play this character.'
