Love Island hopeful Ikenna Ekwonna has made no bones about his determination to find that special someone in the villa, proclaiming: 'I'm not going to ask for permission to speak to someone'.

The pharmaceutical salesman, 23, who describes himself as 'very competitive', said he isn't nervous to enter the villa and had never watched a full episode of the ITV show before agreeing to take part.

Speaking to MailOnline, Ikenna said: 'I'm hoping Love Island is the opportunity for me to find love. Let's just say I'm not going to be asking for permission to speak to someone.'

Ikenna also added that if he and a pal in the villa liked the same girl, he would put romance before friendship, saying: 'I've just got to remember I'm on Love Island to find love. That's the aim.' 

Ikenna admitted he never auditioned for Love Island and was instead approached by a producer while on an outing with friends in Shoreditch.

He said: 'It's a funny story actually. It's the first time I was in London this year, the first time in quite a long time. I was up there for my friend's birthday. 

'We were in Shoreditch box park and I was approached there. I think I was pretty relaxed about it, I wasn't thinking too much about it, until it got a little bit more serious and I had to make a decision.'
