Simon Cowell left Britain's Got Talent viewers unimpressed when he questioned whether the Queen would be at the Royal Variety Performance this year.

The music mogul, 62, made the comment while speaking to comedian Ben Nickless during the final of Britain's Got Talent on Sunday night, with many viewers believing he was predicting her death.

Each year, the winner of the show is invited to perform at the show in front of the Queen but Simon questioned whether she would be in good enough health to attend this year after missing a number of events across her Platinum Jubilee weekend.

When mentioning the winner performing for the Queen, he quickly added: 'Please God it is The Queen.'

Taking to Twitter after hearing Simon's words, one person wrote: 'The awkward silence after Simon basically implied the queen is on her way out … yeah that went down like a lead balloon.'

Someone else tweeted: 'The Queen didn't go to her beloved Derby yesterday. She's hardly going to go along to watch this year's winner of #BritainsGotTalent. Simon is deluded. #BGT.'

'Simon knows the queen is on the way out,' wrote someone else.

While another audience member wrote from their home: '#bgt did Simon imply that "incase the Queen died" there?'
