The re-release of the Jared Leto film Morbius failed to resonate at the box office, garnering $300,000 in sales over the weekend after Sony put it back in theaters after memes circulating about the movie went viral.
Sony on Friday re-released the motion picture into 1,037 theaters, averaging $289 per theater in its second run for a total of around $300,000, Forbes reported Sunday.
The film first arrived in theaters April 1, making $73 million in domestic sales and $163 million worldwide in its first run, according to Box Office Mojo.

In spite of the disappointing returns, the film was a popular topic of memes in the months since it was released, with thousands of social media users sarcastically praising the film, calling for a sequel and posting puns tying in with the name of the titular character.
