The ghost-busting animation will be in the hands of Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who will both act as producers for the series. The two filmmakers are not strangers to the ghoulish franchise, and have previously worked on the 2021 box office hit, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Back again! A new animated Ghostbusters was just announced and confirmed to be in the works during Netflix Geeked Week earlier today Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and also collaborated with Kenan to co-write the script. Jason followed in his father, Ivan Reitman's footsteps, who was famously known for directing the first Ghostbusters film. The cast included actors such as Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard, alongside original cast members from the 1984 movie. The only original ghostbuster not to return in the 2021 film was Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014. In an interview with Vanity Fair on set of the movie, Murray stated, 'Well, we are a man down. That's the deal...And that's the story that we are telling, that's the story they've written.' Original cast is back: The 1984 Ghostbusters team, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Murray sit down for a reunion. Fourth team member, Harold Ramis, passed away in 2014 The film was a huge success and garnered a total of $204.6 in the box office with a budget of $75 million. Although plot details of the new animation have not been revealed just yet, the series will be under the production of Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc. Ghost Corps, Inc. is a subsidiary created in 2015 under Sony Pictures Entertainment that was meant to handle all things Ghostbusters. Sequel: The 2021 film Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a direct sequel to the classic 1984 movie The famous Ghostbusters franchise began when the 1984 film premiered, starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver. The movie is known for being one of the most successful comedies of its decade, and brought in a grand total of around $295 million in box office sales. A number of spinoff series and movies have been added to the franchise, including another animation that aired from 1986-1991, and the 2016 film, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call.
