The heartbreaking moment occurred during a challenge where cast-members had to run their own pet photography company. In a cruel twist of fate, TV host Darren, 40, received a phone call informing him that his beloved family dog Mac has cancer. Darren McMullen, 40, (pictured) was brought to tears on Tuesday's episode of Celebrity Apprentice Australia after learning that his beloved pet dog Mac was diagnosed with cancer 'This is a tough one for me. I had some bad news about my doggy,' Darren told guest star Janine Allis. 'Just out of nowhere something blew up in his mouth and it was cancer. They wanted to put him down but I said 'absolutely not I need a second opinion',' he said, tears welling in his eyes. Darren told Janine that he'd owned Mac for 12 years and considered him 'part of the family'. 'This is a tough one for me. I had some bad news about my doggy,' Darren told guest star Janine Allis (left) Despite the tragic news, Darren valiantly continued with the challenge. 'It's pretty awful. [This challenge] is a tough task for me. At the same time, I do love animals and I just kind of have to channel that and do the best I can to help my team win,' he insisted. Darren's perseverance paid off in spades, as he avoided elimination during the episode's board meeting, with Lord Sugar praising his 'outstanding' salesmanship. Posting to Instagram moments after Tuesday's episode aired, Darren shared a photo of his adorable pooch while confirming that Mac is on the mend. 'Thank you to everyone that reached out after watching Celeb Apprentice tonight,' he wrote, adding: 'This is Mac, he's doing ok. He had radiation treatment and responded well to it.' 'We're all crossing our fingers he gets out the other side cancer free,' he added.
