Chris Evans hit back at critics of the depiction of a same-sex couple in his upcoming film Lightyear, saying, 'The real truth is those people are idiots.'
The Boston native, 41, speaking with Reuters on Tuesday, addressed the criticism of a gay couple featured in the Pixar movie, in which he voices the titular role of Buzz Lightyear.
'Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good,' Evans said.

The interview comes after Lightyear was given a ban in the United Arab Emirates over its portrayal of a same sex couple, and 13 Middle Eastern and Asian countries have not permitted Disney to show the motion picture.
In the animated film, Buzz Lightyear's friend is a female space ranger Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) who is married to a woman, with a montage of moments showing including the same-sex kiss.
