A TikTok video has gone viral for questioning whether the ongoing public grief for the late Australian conservationist Steve Irwin has gone too far.

TikTok user @sa99ymaggie highlighted in her video how Steve's fans like to leave gushing comments about the 'Crocodile Hunter' whenever his son Robert, 18, posts a video on social media.

These comments typically reference how much the teenager looks like his father, who died in 2006 when Robert was just two years old, and how much they miss him.

Maggie's video, which has been viewed more than four million times, sees her pretending to cry as she says: 'Your dad is dead... and I miss him.'

She says this sums up the 'entire comments section' whenever Robert posts a video showing off a 'cool animal' at Australia Zoo.

There's no denying Maggie has a point: a glance at Robert's posts on TikTok and Instagram on any given day shows the comments are filled with references to Steve.

Social media users often remark on how much Robert (pictured with a crocodile at Australia Zoo) resembles his famous father, who died in a freak accident 16 years ago
