Lizzo has revealed her flesh-baring outfits have caused a stir among her family members as they ring and tell her to 'put some clothes on'.

The singer, 34, often takes to the stage and posts on Instagram in skimpy ensembles and she revealed her looks haven't gone unnoticed by her relatives.

Lizzo discussed the controversy during an appearance on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, where she also revealed Beyoncé's music helped her with depression.

The star, who said she would listen to the singing icon and dream of one day becoming a singer, revealed that when she began releasing music and cussing in her songs, it also 'p****d a few family members off.'

She said: 'My cousin Pookie gets made at me all the time. He'll call my mom and say "Hey, tell Melissa to put some clothes on".

During the ride, Lizzo played a tune on a flute and revealed she called her own instrument Sasha Floot, inspired by Beyoncé's alter-ego Sasha Fierce.

She added that Beyoncé was a bigger influence beyond the flute name, adding: 'When I was shy, or when I didn't think I was cool, when I was getting picked on, I would listen to Beyoncé in my bedroom and it would transport me.'

She said: 'I would feel that my life was going to be better, you know, there's hope for me. When I dropped out of college and I was really depressed, I listened to B'Day on repeat and I was like I'm gonna be a singer.

'The way she makes people feel is the way I wanna make people feel with music. She is my North Star,' Lizzo said, but admitted she has never met her and they are not friends.

James asked if they should call her and pulled out his phone, as Lizzo started getting emotional... but he admitted: 'I'm joking, there's no way I've got her phone number.'
