Damian Lewis has swapped the screen for the concert hall as he played songs from his upcoming debut album at an intimate show in London - where he reportedly sang some emotional lyrics about his late wife Helen McCrory.

The 51-year-old British actor, known for starring in the television dramas Billions, Band Of Brothers and Homeland, performed to a sold-out crowd on Thursday at London's Omeara venue.

Dressed all in black for the occasion, Lewis was supported by a band as he sang and played the guitar at the gig, which came before he is set to take to the stage at Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire on Sunday.

His actress wife Helen died in April 2021 aged 52 after being diagnosed with cancer, and Damian is believed to have paid tribute to the late Peaky Blinders star on stage.

According to The Sun, he sang in one emotional track: 'You and me should be together 'til the end. So bye bye, baby, I can't wait to see your smile again.'

Another track, which he performed near the end of his set, seemed to also relate to losing a partner.

Damian sang: 'She comes as a blackbird, she comes as a fox. She sits at the window, she sings from a rock.

'She's the moon in the day and the sun that shines in the dark. She rests in me and she rests in shade. She's my joy, she's my pain and she rained on me.'

As well as original tracks, Damian performed covers of Neil Young's Harvest Moon and Tom Waits' Little Trip To Heaven.

The publication reports that Damian admitted ahead of the second track: 'I shouldn't have agreed to this song. I shouldn't have agreed to the mascara either,' suggesting it was an emotional song for him.
