Radio 1 DJ Charlie Hedges has announced she has given birth to her first child.

The star, 35, revealed the happy news on her Instagram account on Wednesday, and live on air to her show co-stars Ricky Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom.

Charlie gushed that 'life is complete' as she revealed she and her partner Lee had named their daughter Summer Rose.

Charlie called in to her lunchtime Radio 1 show on Wednesday to update listeners after going on maternity leave earlier this month.

Her co-stars Ricky and Melvin and their temporary co-host Vicky Hawkesworth were delighted with the news, as Charlie told them: 'I've only had a baby haven't I!'

'Number one, it's been the most amazing experience in the world. She was born on Saturday at 8:53am. She is just a little dream.'

She joked to her pals that Summer Rose is 'exactly like her mum... she was absolutely massive to the point where everyone in the theatre just laughed because they couldn't believe how big she was.'

'We were told she'd be 7Ibs 1 but in fact she was over 8Ibs 3...She's already wearing my high heels.'

Charlie then explained a magical moment during the birth, reminding Melvin and Ricky how a few weeks ago she had asked Radio 1 listeners to send in songs for her birth playlist.

'There was a couple of tracks that I'd left out, one of them was Calvin Harris Summer because it had her name, because I didn't want anyone to clock that it might have something to do with her name,' Charlie explained.

'We had about 20 tracks in the end, and the tune that she actually was born to was Summer so she is part of the Dance Anthems family!'

After her announcement on air, Charlie shared a sweet Insta snap of her baby girl, with her and her partner Lee holding hands with the newborn. 

She wrote: 'Soul of my Soul, And God created Woman' Our beautiful Summer-Rose was born Saturday 13th August 2022. Life is complete.
