Five-time Emmy winner Dave Chappelle certainly surprised the audience packed into The Kia Forum in LA on Tuesday night for the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert with his performance.

But rather than tell jokes, the 49-year-old controversial comedian decided to sing a karaoke-style cover of Radiohead's 1992 song Creep alongside the Foo Fighters.

Chappelle encourage the crowd to sing several lines of the self-loathing grunge track about a 'weirdo' who 'doesn't belong here' and wishes he was 'special.'

The DC-born, Ohio-based father-of-three waved his cigarette in the air as he sang and, when he finished, he dropped the mic and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl announced: 'Didn't see that one coming, did you?' 

But it wasn't the first time as Dave performed the same exact track last year with the 15-time Grammy-winning rock band - including the late Taylor Hawkins - at Manhattan's Madison Square Garden.

The six-hour concert honoring the drummer - who overdosed, age 50, on March 25 - included his 16-year-old son Shane, who performed with Foo Fighters on Hero and I'll Stick Around.

The 'revolving door of rock heroes' also featured Joan Jett, Travis Barker, Kesha, Miley Cyrus, Def Leppard, Pink, Heart, Queen, Chad Smith, Alanis Morissette, Jack Black, Rush, Motley Crue, Def
