But 60-year-old Top Gun actor Anthony Edwards and 63-year-old St Elmo's Fire standout Mare Winningham are no longer hiding their love.
On Thursday evening the stars cuddled up to each other at his former ER co-star George Clooney's inaugural Albie Awards at New York Public Library.

The event benefitted the Clooney Foundation For Justice.
The two actors proudly held hands on the red carpet as they smiled.
She had on a floral print top with a black satin skirt as she held a gold clutch purse. Mare added a pearly necklace.
Anthony looked dapper in a black tuxedo with a white shirt and black bow tie with a closely trimmed beard.

Both flashed their wedding rings.
Edwards - who played Goose opposite Tom Cruise in the original Top Gun movie (Miles Teller had his role in this summer's sequel, also with Cruise) - put his arm around his wife too.
He shared they had secretly eloped last year during an interview with Esquire that was published in January.
During the conversation, the actor expressed that he and the Oscar nominee, 62, had decided to tie the knot after being friends for nearly four decades.
The couple famously costarred in the 1988 thriller feature Miracle Mile.
