An innocent joke about whingeing husbands backfired badly for Sunrise host David Koch on Friday after a guest revealed her spouse was dying from cancer.
Koch, 66, and co-anchor Natalie Barr were interviewing a competition winner who had scored herself a Caribbean cruise.
When Barr asked her who would be joining her on the trip, the woman responded, 'I'm going to take my husband.' This prompted Koch to quip: 'Oh, why?'

'Because he has terminal cancer,' was her deadpan reply.
Koch looked visibly shocked and simply muttered: 'Oh...'
The embarrassing moment was later posted on Twitter and soon went viral, gaining traction in Britain and the United States.
