Margot Robbie has been praised by Amsterdam director David O. Russell for emulating her character's skill of creating artwork from shrapnel.

The actress, 32, stars in the flick as Valerie Voze, a nurse who gets caught up in the murder of a US senator in the 1930s.

And director David, 64, was certainly impressed by the actress' skills as he praised her creations as being 'super dope, fun art!'

The Australian beauty faced the unusual challenge while making the film, having had to learn how to fashion bits of shrapnel into works of art - which is what her character does in the thirties-set picture.

She was coached by sculptor Linder Sterling, who made most of the pieces used in the film. 

Of Margot's newfound skill, David told the Daily Mail's Alison Boshoff: 'Margot made super dope, fun art that is full of meaning and humour.'

The new movie Amsterdam, which is in cinemas on Friday, sees Christian Bale, John David Washington and Margot play
