Justin Theroux was back in the new trailer for the second season of his Apple TV+ series The Mosquito Coast.

The show, which is based on the novel of the same name by Theroux's uncle Paul Theroux, features the actor as Allie Fox, an idealistic American inventor who is on the run from the National Security Agency (NSA) after turning to ecoterrorism to advance his ideals.

In the season two trailer, Allie and his wife Margot (Melissa George) have escaped from Mexico and made it to a refuge in the Guatemalan jungle, but drug cartels pose an even greater threat to their safety than the American authorities chasing them.

'We've made it,' Allie says in voiceover at the start of the trailer as a succession of images shows him and his family cruising on a riverboat through an alligator-infested jungle.

He and his family, including his wife Margot, daughter Dina (Logan Polish) and son Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) are seen stepping off the boat at a dock at night to dramatic music, suggesting they have finally found a new home.

Suddenly, flood lights turn on, revealing that they are in an encampment, the closest thing to society that they have seen in quite some time.

'Everything's gonna be different from now on,' Allie says to soothe Margot while his children explore the village.

But Margot doesn't seem to be onboard with Allie's plans.

'You want to make this a home — whether we like it or not,' she snarls at him in a scene back on the boat.

Back in the village, Allie is embraced by a woman who appears to be an old friend, played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley.

'It took a long time for this place to find its footing,' she tells him. 'And I took a very personal risk bringing you here, Allie.

She adds, 'Please, don't make me regret that choice.'
