Carrie Bickmore may have quit The Project, but her legacy as Channel 10's golden girl won't easily be forgotten.

The popular broadcaster, 41, has spent the last 13 years delivering news and opinion on The Project, and is widely respected for her thorough and compassionate approach to reporting.

Now, as the Gold Logie winner embarks upon the next stage of her career, Daily Mail Australia looks back on her most iconic moments.

Bickmore made headlines in February after she sensationally ripped into then-prime minister Scott Morrison for allowing his wife Jenny to take 'complete responsibility' for his mistakes during the couple's 60 Minutes interview with Karl Stefanovic.

During the chat, Morrison told Stefanovic he and his wife believed they were making the 'right decision' taking their children to Hawaii during the horror 2019 bushfires.

'Did we make the right decision? I thought I was making the right decision for my kids. I obviously was wrong,' Jenny told Nine.

Bickmore accused Mr Morrison of being 'weak' for repeatedly allowing his wife to take the brunt of the tough questions, saying: 'I don't know if it's part of the edit, but Jenny had to take the complete responsibility for the Hawaii situation.

'She takes responsibility as he sat there. I think the whole thing made him look so weak.'

Bickmore said the interview appeared like it was a 'push' to have her address all of the failures of the Morrison government.

'I felt like he sat there and smiled the whole time while his wife, who is not the prime minister, had to answer to all the mistakes,' she said.

Bickmore has never shied away from taking an adversarial approach during on-air debates, having also famously criticised Channel 10's political editor Peter van Onselen over his statements about Grace Tame.

In January, Bickmore unleashed on Onselen after he labelled the 2021 Australian of the Year 'immature' for refusing to smile at a reception with Mr Morrison.

Van Onselen wrote a scathing opinion piece about the awkward encounter, calling the sexual abuse survivor 'ungracious, rude and childish', suggesting that if she didn't like Mr Morrison, she should have just stayed home.

Bickmore and journalist Amy Remeikis did not hold back as they turned against the commentator.

Bickmore and Remeikis, who is a sexual assault survivor herself, took issue with his comments and questioned why Tame needed to act a certain way.

'Your column today, devastating to so many people,' Remeikis said.

'Women constantly have to come out to talk about their trauma... talk about not being taken seriously, scream the roof down get to the point where I'm almost crying on national television to talk about this.

'We're constantly being told how we should act, who we should think about, and who perhaps should be seen in our place.'

Bickmore then asked van Onselen why he felt he needed to tell Tame to act in a certain way and to smile during a 'catastrophe'.

'I didn't think she should smile and pretend it's okay; I just thought she shouldn't go. If you can't be polite in some form, I think just don't go,' he said, adding that he applauded everything Tame had done for survivors of sexual assault.

Van Onselen said that while he supported what Tame had done for survivors of sexual assault, he believed her interaction with the PM was 'childish'

Bickmore then asked why should Tame be silenced and not able to attend the morning tea, to which van Onselen said: 'If you can't show basic courtesy, I think it's immature.'

'You spoke about how she acted as a child, you know when she should have been able to act as a child? When she was a child. But she was preyed upon by a man and lost part of herself in that,' Bickmore fired back.

'I'm unsure how that article today helps when I'm assuming, like the entire nation, you want violence against women and children to end?'

The commentator responded saying he had been the victim of an attempted sexual assault and understood the importance of the conversation around sexual abuse.

'But I just think if you can't be polite to the prime minister of the country, I get it, I said in the article, I get it, if she can't be polite to him, but then just don't go,' van Onselen said.

Remeikis asked why Tame and other sexual abuse survivors should have to 'be polite'.

'I don't think she should. I don't think she should stand there and smile; I just think she shouldn't go if you can't show basic courtesies to the prime minister,' van Onselen responded.

'But you wrote an entire column saying she was being childish because she showed her authentic feelings,' Remeikis snapped.

'I thought she was being childish. I don't have a problem with her having a problem with Scott Morrison,' van Onselen said.

He was then asked repeatedly why he wrote the article, to which he said: 'I think it's juvenile to respond that way.'
