She said: 'I can't believe it. I had a bad, bad week. I knew it. I knew it was me. I knew it was coming, but I was hoping my showstopper would have saved me.

'It's really sad to go, but I'm happy and I'm proud that I made it this far.

Her fellow contestants and fans alike seemed shock that she was sent home during the quarter finals.

According to the official GGBO website: 'Swedish-born Maxy studied fine art and went on to achieve a Masters degree in Architecture, pausing her final qualifications to raise her two daughters, Tyra and Talia.

'She has DIY-ed every corner of her flat – from laying the flooring and resurfacing the balcony to painting the walls and hanging her own artwork.

'She began baking five years ago, with the arrival of her first daughter, and uses her strong artistic skills to create beautifully decorated celebration cakes.'

'Having gotten so far in the competition, I would have obviously loved to have made it to the finals, however am super proud of how far I managed to come.

'I really stepped out of my comfort zone applying for Bake Off, and am honestly so glad I did!

'Got to meet Dame Prue, Paul, Noel and Matt, and had the best time of my life. If you are considering to apply, I suggest that you do so because you could be here next year.

'Along the way, I have grown and become more confident as a person, gained new friends and left the tent a better baker.

'Thank you to all that have supported me, love you all. To the team, you are amazing, thank you for making this such a lovely experience.

'Lots of love, your Quarter Finalist.'

Sandro, Abdul, Janusz and Syabira remain in the competition.
