Kath & Kim star Magda Szubanski admits she isn't the most obvious choice to host a television show about public health.
The actress and comedian, 61, suffers from a litany of chronic health issues and has struggled with her weight for years.
But she believes these issues 'in some ways' make her more qualified than a 'fit and healthy' person to host the ABC's Big National Health Check, given that half the Australian population is dealing with a chronic health condition.

'I am probably more representative in some ways than someone who is fit and healthy,' she told The Daily Telegraph.
'This impacts on people like me and I want to understand it.'
The Babe star said she was sick of seeing TV shows about health being hosted by 'fit and healthy people' because all they do is make her 'feel like crap'.
'We are all in this together and I am on this journey too,' she added.
