Steven Spielberg revealed his mom, Leah, who died in 2017, and father, Arnold, who passed away in 2020 , were very supportive of him making a film about their family.
Ahead of the release of his semi-autobiographical movie, The Fabelmans, the 75-year-old Hollywood legend joked that his late parents encouraged him to tap into his own experiences and upbringing for inspiration.
'They were actually nagging me, 'When are you going to tell that story about our family, Steve?' And so this was something they were very enthusiastic about,' he mused.

He continued: 'I started seriously thinking, if I had to make one movie I haven't made yet, something that I really want to do on a very personally atomic level, what would that be? And there was only one story I really wanted to tell.'
The Fabelmans is his 'first coming-of-age story' he's 'ever told' after directing some of the most highly regarded films of all time including E.T, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan and more.
Spielberg, who is one of the most prolific filmmakers around, went on to explain to The Hollywood Reporter what he hopes viewers get from his latest work.

Upon watching the movie, he wants people to think about 'when does a young person in a family start see his parents as human beings.'
'In my case, because of what happened between the ages of 7 and 18, I started to appreciate my mom and dad not as parents but as real people,' the father-of-seven said.
