The Block viewers have a theory for why two of the homes from this year's season failed to sell at auction earlier this month.

A fan of the Channel Nine renovation series drove past the completed houses in Gisborne recently and posted a photo of the view on Reddit.

They pointed out how close the houses were to one another, noting the lack of privacy that was not apparent on the show.

'I posted the photos to give a glimpse into the layout of The Block houses this year as I could not get my head around it,' the Reddit user wrote.

'Going past you could really see the factors beyond the contestants' control that made selling all these houses really difficult.'

Privacy is something you would expect to be included when you're paying $4million for a country retreat, but several of the Block houses lacked this feature.

For some properties, there was also the issue of the other houses obstructing the view of the surrounding countryside.

'It will take a lot of trees and about 10 years before these places hide the shed and get their privacy,' one fan commented on the Reddit post.

Another said: 'Yeah, they'll look better with some massive hedges and/or trees in front of them. It's just a shame that they used a design which needs to be hidden instead of being proudly displayed.'

Someone labelled the new gravel road the homes sat on as 'Desolation Row' while another said it was 'no wonder no one wanted to buy them'.
