Nathan Sykes has spoken about the death of his The Wanted bandmate Tom Parker for the first time.

The singer, 29, claimed the group will 'always be a five-piece' while reflecting on supporting the late star during their Most Wanted: Greatest Hits tour earlier this year.

Tom died aged 33 on March 30 following a battle with brain cancer after he was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma in October 2020.

Revealing he had been gearing up to release his own album before their final time on the road together, Nathan said he agreed to tour with pals Max George, 34, Siva Kaneswaran, 33, and Jay McGuiness, 32, because it was the 'right thing to do'.

The Glad You Came songster admitted the performances were not 'about the music' but 'doing that tour because Tom wanted to do it'.

He told The Mirror: 'There are more important things and that time we had with Tom, looking back, is more important than anything.

'Especially the last show, it was a tough one, it was quiet afterwards, I think there was just this kind of energy in the air, that I've never really seen an arena like it, it was kind of a beautiful evening, but something I've never experienced.'

On the band's future, he continued: 'In my opinion, The Wanted will always be a five-piece, I think our focus has shifted in terms of supporting each other and doing things together that can make a difference.

Earlier this month, Tom's widow Kelsey campaigned for more funding into brain tumour research in the UK during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

The actress, 32, claimed many families across the country are 'clinging to straws' with alternative treatments, which they sometimes have to travel abroad for.

Kelsey explained how she and her husband had opted to visit a clinic in Spain for help, as they wanted to explore options other than chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
