Billy Ray Cyrus, 61, has finally confirmed that he is engaged to Australian singer Firerose, 34, as he revealed that he popped the question just four months after his wife of 28 years Tish had filed for divorce.

The Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker made the revelation in an interview with People magazine published on Tuesday in which he gave some insight on his relationship with the musician nearly half his age, got candid about his mother passing away, and insisted that there is no riff with his children after his split.

 It has been quite the year for Billy as mother-of-four Tish, 55, filed for divorce in April, four months later he became engaged with Firerose, and just a few weeks after his mother Ruth Ann Castro died.

Firerose recalled the moment he proposed  as he revealed there was no bended knee or ring as she said: 'Billy looked at me and said, "Do you, do you wanna marry me?" And I was just like, "Of course I do. I love you." He said, "I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever."'

She also revealed that she later picked out a diamond and designed her own ring which has been seen on social media since.

Since Billy's split with Tish and rumors of his engagement there have been reports that there is a rift with his children; son Christopher Cody (who he shares with ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey), 30,  Brandi, 35, and Noah, 22, and sons Trace, 33, and Braison, 28.

However the star insisted that there are no hard feelings in the family as he explained: 'Everyone knew that that relationship was over a long time ago.

'Everybody's turning the page. It's been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change.' 

Speaking of change, Billy Ray got emotional as he reflected on the month of August where he got engaged and lost his mother as he said: 'I've spent my life worried about things that are beyond my control. But at this spot in my life, knowing that all you really have is the happiness that you feel inside your mind and your heart...'

People said he paused and began to cry  before saying: 'Finding Firerose and getting engaged and then losing my mom [a few weeks later]—see? The teeter-totter will not stay in the middle.

'But having somebody to ride it out with now—that's giving me a little more balance.'

Just last month Billy Ray seemingly  confirmed engagement rumors as his younger girlfriend who showed off a diamond ring.

The Old Town Road hitmaker cuddled his ladylove who showed off a massive diamond sparkler in an Instagram snap posted on Tuesday.

He did not say anything about the ring in his caption despite it being featured prominently as he captioned the gallery: 'Happy Autumn [red heart emoji]'

The couple did appear to look very happy as they cuddled up for the sweet selfies.

This comes weeks after reports that he is 'believed to be engaged' to the songstress, who 'was spotted with a huge diamond ring' recently, according to The US Sun. Billy Ray and Firerose worked with one another on a single last year titled New Day.

Billy and Firerose - whose age is unknown - have been seen spending time with one another in a number of posts on both of their Instagram accounts.   

Billy Ray is father to five children with Tish Cyrus, 55, - daughters Brandi, 35, Miley, 29, and Noah, 22, and sons Trace, 33, and Braison, 28.
