Peter Kay has raked in earnings of more than £22million ahead of returning to stage for his much-anticipated comeback tour.

Figures filed by his firm Hussein Traders on Companies House on Tuesday show the comedian, 49, has made £22.6million in investments in just one year.

The accounts show he has made profits of £10.5million in the year leading up to March 31, 2022, an increase of more than £410,000 from the year previously.

A source told The Sun: 'The accounts just prove what a huge success Peter is.

'His royalties and merchandise still tick along every year, despite his recent inactivity. He's also very savvy with his cash, as he's made lots of wise investments.'

MailOnline has contacted Peter's representatives for comment.

The new figures come ahead of Peter's much-anticipated return to stage for his upcoming comeback tour, which sold out in mere minutes earlier this month.

Peter, from Bolton, has been largely out of the spotlight in recent years after cancelling his last tour in December 2017, citing 'unforeseen family circumstances'.

He returned to the stage in August 2021 for two special charity events to raise money for Laura Nuttall, a then 20-year-old with an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme.

There was also a brief return in January 2021 when he appeared on BBC Radio 2 to chat to Cat Deeley - who was filling in after Graham Norton left the station - about his love of music, mixtapes and the musical Mamma Mia.

He also made a surprise appearance at a charity screening of his series Car Share in 2018.

Earlier this year, he hosted his Dance For Life show seeing all the proceeds go to Cancer Research.

As part of his much-anticipated upcoming tour, Peter is hosting a London residency at the O2 Arena, becoming the first comedian ever to secure such an opportunity.

He will be performing at The O2 Arena once a month from December until November 2023, with dates including December 16, January 21, February 18, March 22 and April 22 - all the way through until November 18.

He is kicking off his tour on December 2 in Manchester and is putting on an array of shows all across the UK, before his final show back in Manchester on July 25, 2025.

An hour after they were released, tickets at a face value price of £150 each in Leeds in September were also put on sale at Viagogo for £1,770 - a 1,080 percent mark-up.

The tour went on sale at 10am on November 12, although some fans reported being in the online queue from 6am.

Fans can buy up to ten tickets per person, which has seen backlash on social media from fans claiming this encourages ticket resellers to buy.

At 10.30am and again at 12.15pm, Peter Kay announced on Twitter that more dates had been added to the tour. By 10:50am, Viagogo had multiple tickets for sale at more than £1,000 each, with other resellers not far behind.

Frustrated fans complained online of the lengthy wait to get through to the official ticket site and said it was 'easier to become Prime Minister' than to get to see Peter Kay.
