Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has shared her hilarious reaction after Martin Scorsese revealed he was a fan of the show. 

The legendary Hollywood director told how he'd been tuning into the comedy while attending the Economic Club of Chicago’s annual black tie dinner, which took place back in October.

And a month after Martin told of his love for the series, Lisa posted a clip of him speaking about her show, alongside the humorous caption: 'Excuse me while I drop dead and actually die a death.' 

The playwright and screenwriter, 42, also uploaded a clip from the Channel 4 programme as she shared: 'And for the record, we're big Scorsese fans too.'

Lisa wasn't the only star shocked by Martin's TV tastes, with Siobhan McSweeney - who plays Sister Michaels - also sharing the same post, writing alongside it: 'Good morning. I’m ded [sic].'

The clip in question sees Martin, 80, being asked what he's watching at the moment, with the screenwriter saying: 'I watched, the other night, Derry Girls?'

As the crowd began to cheer, he then punched his fist in the air before joking: 'Those nuns!'

Derry Girls has attracted a lot of big name fans during it's run, with Brad Pitt being a fan, while Liam Neeson and Chelsea Clinton have made guest appearances. 

The hit Channel 4 show, which is based on a group of 16-year-old school pupils living in Ireland's Londonderry during the 1994 conflicts, came to an end in May this year after three seasons.

The series, inspired by writer Lisa, who created the show, followed the Derry Girls as they juggled the pressures of high school along with the complex political situation in Northern Ireland.
