They co-hosted The Project today for almost five years.

So viewers were surprised when Lisa Wilkinson failed to make an appearance during The Project's farewell presentation to Carrie Bickmore on Wednesday.

A host of Ten personalities paid tribute to Bickmore during her emotional final broadcast, with the likes of Fifi Box, Charlie Pickering, Dave Hughes, Rachel Corbett and Rove McManus all sending their best wishes on camera.

Yet Wilkinson, who last month resigned from The Project effective immediately, neither appeared in studio nor in a pre-recorded tribute.

It comes amid rumours of a feud between Carrie and Lisa, which began in 2018 when reports claimed the long-standing Project star 'was furious' her new desk partner was going to earn four times her salary.

They claimed Carrie was 'less than impressed' with Ten's decision to recruit Lisa on The Project.

'[She is] p**sed off at Wilkinson being shipped in to sit alongside her,' insiders allegedly told the Daily Telegraph at the time.

They noted that the centre of Carrie's frustration was likely to be her comparably meek pay packet of a rumoured $500,000 - an amount almost four times less than Lisa was earning in her role on The Project, which was said to be $2.3 million.

At the time Carrie denied the claims, telling Who magazine: 'I couldn't be more excited to be working with her. We text, we call and we're going to make a great team.
