On Saturday, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer clarified that two-time Oscar nominee Margot Robbie's female-led spin-off could still happen despite her recent comments otherwise.

Last month, the Australian 32-year-old told Vanity Fair that she was developing a 'really cool' idea for the movie a 'while, ages ago' but 'I guess they don't want to do it.'

'We developed two scripts at once and the Margot Robbie script was a little further away,' the 79-year-old Emmy winner explained to TheWrap.

Norweigan filmmaker Joachim Rønning - who directed the fifth film Dead Men Tell No Tales - is slated to return to helm the sixth installment with a script co-written by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin.
