A trailer for the highly-anticipated Motherland Christmas special was released on Wednesday giving fans of the show a glimpse of what to expect.

The short clip shows Julia (Anna Maxwell Martin) debating what to get her mother for Christmas with Liz (Diane Morgan) and Kevin (Paul Ready).

The BBC2 comedy has earned a legion of fans since it first aired in 2016, taking a comical look at the jealousies, rivalries and insecurities among a group of mums at primary school.

In the trailer Julia frets: 'I'm just not good at Christmas giving!' as Kevin quips: 'It's one of my talents along with changing duvets and cooking rice!'

Julia adds: 'So what are we going to get mother then Mr Father Christmas? Because last year she said not to get her anything so I didn't and then she did sad face all day - which is very mixed messaging!'

Kevin then suggests getting her an experience like zorbing to which Liz then questions: 'What's zorbing!?'

Kevin then clarifies: 'It's when you roll down a hill in a giant see-through ball.'

Liz then hilariously exclaims: 'She's an old lady not a gerbil!'
