The esteemed journalist, 40, was admitted to Victoria's Cabrini Hospital in November after his condition left him bedridden and unable to work. Fortunately, his medical team effectively treated him and helped the footy correspondent get back on the field. Many of Tom's fans took to Twitter to express relief that he was on the mend with one concerned follower telling him to 'go well'. 'I think a lot of people with diabetes have a similar attitude to me and that is they just want to get on with life, but the reality is it is a serious illness,' he told the Herald Sun. 'I think people should be inspired by the likes of (footballers) Paddy McCartin and Sam Reid; you should not let it hold you back.'
