Golden Globe Awards host announced: Comedian Jerrod Carmichael trends now
The Golden Globe Awards named its host for the 2023 show on Thursday morning.
Comedian Jerrod Carmichael, 35, will host the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards. After a year's hiatus, the three-hour telecast will air live coast to coast on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
He is a rare Black emcee for a ceremony that has been criticized for years for snubbing Black-led projects and performances.
NBC refused to air the 2022 ceremony to allow the Globes and their parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, to make changes after a damaging 2021 Los Angeles Times investigation revealed its inner workings, including that it had no Black members since at least 2002.
The Globes have since diversified its membership and NBC has reinstated its telecast, but it remains to be seen how its televised return will be received.
Nominations for the ceremony will be announced Monday.

The event will take place at Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, and air on NBC and Peacock.
Carmichael has an impressive resume. He arned an Emmy this year for writing his comedy special Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel. He also earned an Emmy nomination for his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live in April.
Carmichael also starred on The Carmichael Show, a sitcom that aired on NBC.

He co-created, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the show.
