David Koch is the success story few in the TV industry saw coming.
The financial journalist was an unlikely choice when he was promoted to co-host of Sunrise in 2002 - but he has held the role for two decades and is considered a key factor in the Channel Seven show's ratings success.
And it now seems another number-crunching reporter over at the Nine Network could be destined for a top job on breakfast television: Chris Kohler.

Kohler has been co-hosting Weekend Today with Belinda Russell and others for the past few weeks, and Nine executives are said to be impressed.
He flew in from Melbourne to Sydney for the temporary role and his transition from financial reporter to all-round presenter has been a success, reports TV Blackbox.
While Karl Stefanovic is locked in to host the weekday edition of Today for the foreseeable future, rumour has it Kohler could be a contender one day.
