Professional dancer Gorka Marquez is reportedly set to leave Strictly Come Dancing after seven years on the show.

The star, 32, narrowly missed out on lifting the Glitterball Trophy for a third time last week when he came second with celebrity partner Helen Skelton - when Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal were crowned winners.

When the winners were announced many took to Twitter to note his reaction, as they said he was 'fuming' about missing out and was 'robbed' of the accolade.

Now The Sun reports that Gorka is feeling the 'seven year itch' and is looking for new opportunities after Helen previously claimed that 'every pro on the show' was desperate for him to win this year.

A source told the publication: 'He looked so devastated last week because he knew the final might be his last chance of taking home the Glitterball, which had eluded him twice before.

'Gorka has become an established figure in the contest and a name in his own right, which could allow him to go on to bigger things.

'There's no suggestion of any bad feeling between him and the BBC. It remains to be seen if producers will now offer him a deal enticing enough to sign up for next year's show.'

Representatives for Gorka have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Others commented on how Gorka's partner Gemma Atkinson, 38, was tearful as she sat in the studio audience while he missed the win narrowly.

Gorka had previously reached the final alongside Maisie Smith in 2020 and Alexandra Burke in 2017.
