Love Island fans criticise show's lack of diversity trends now

Love Island has unveiled the first ten singletons headed to South Africa for the new winter series of the ITV2 show which kicks off next week.

But fans have once again hit out at the lack of diversity in the new line-up, pointing out that the contestants are 'all size 8, Insta perfect with six packs'.

Twitter commentators have praised the reality series though for the inclusion of the first ever partially-sighted Islander and for casting a model who has the skin condition vitiligo.

One of the main criticisms of this year's lineup is the lack of body diversity, with the show accused by some of casting the same body shapes 'year after year'.

'Another #LoveIsland where body diversity is non existent,' tweeted one follower, with another agreeing: 'Another year of no body diversity from Love Island, are we surprised '#LoveIsland'.

'Dunno why I was hoping for some body diversity on #LoveIsland this time. I hate commenting on looks but it's concerning when it's all insta perfect, six packs and size 8/10's. Do they not realise the influence they have over young people? To teach them that is normal is not ok,' commented another.

'#loveisland can we please stop with these copy and paste people !! Get some real people in there ffs.'

The show's first partially sighted contestant Ron Hall have been confirmed as the first singletons heading to the Love Island villa

'When are we actually going to see normal bodies or people of all ages ? No wonder a massive percentage of the population of the younger generation, are insecure because of the pressure that they have to look like these `insta models’. This isn’t true reality of life!'

The new lineup is made up of five women and five men, but many critics have pointed out that as in previous years the lineup includes a lack of BAME singletons.

'Some things never change. See we’re still doing one Black guy and girl this season…. @LoveIsland,' tweeted on critic.

'#LoveIsland really sprinkles one black girl as an OG and goes “yup that enough”' agreed another.

'Why does love island think only white and black ppl exist in the UK,' tweeted one other unimpressed fan.

While there have been critics, many fans of the show have praised the inclusion of the show's first partially sighted contestant - financial advisor Ron Hall.

The keen golfer and boxer from Essex, is hoping to raise awareness by discussing his disability on screen, following the lead of the show's first deaf contestant Tasha Ghouri who was a runner-up on the summer 2022 series.

Ron was left blind in one eye after a football injury when he was just eight-years-old, but he says it's 'not hindered me in any shape or form.'

Tweeters praised Love Island for including Ron in the lineup, with one posting: 'Just looking through the brand new #LoveIsland Line up - Apparently one of the Islanders is blind. It's good to see the show being so inclusive. It just goes to show that anybody can find love. I can't wait for the new series.'

Biomedical science student Tanya Manhenga, 22, meanwhile says she's excited to raise awareness of her condition, vitiligo, explaining it's 'a skin pigmentation, you may not even notice it.'

'It's on my lip and I have a stripe on my hair. Not many people know that but I think it’s quite cute. I don’t care about covering it up all the time, I
