India enjoys first-EVER Golden Globe win via song Naatu Naatu from RRR trends now

India enjoyed its first-ever Golden Globe win on Tuesday night as Naatu Naatu, a viral production number from the Telugu film RRR, won best original song.

Directed by the wildly successful filmmaker S S Rajamouli, RRR stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in a splashy action musical about Indians resisting British rule.

Prominent Indians ranging from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to movie stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra rejoiced at their country's triumph.

RRR was also nominated in the best foreign language film category but lost to the acclaimed Argentine movie Argentina, 1985.

However Naatu Naatu - with lyrics by Chandrabose and music by M M Keeravani, both Telugu cinema staples - sailed to awards glory stateside on Tuesday.

The composer, who is a cousin of RRR's director, took the stage solo to accept the prize and showered praise on his collaborators.

Chandrabose's fellow boldface names rejoiced on Twitter, including the Hindi film legend Amitabh Bachchan, who shared his congratulations in English and Telugu.

Priyanka Chopra hailed an 'Amazing win for Indian cinema!' while Prime Minister Modi declared: 'This prestigious honour has made every Indian very proud.' 

Anupama Chopra, one of the best-known film critics in India, tweeted of Keeravani: 'An artist who has given us memorable music for decades - so heartening to see him and the brilliant #NaatuNaatu score big.'

On the red carpet before the ceremony, Ram Charan expressed his joy that an Indian movie was being 'appreciated' in Hollywood, which he called the 'Mecca of films.'

He shared: 'I would love to work with one of the top directors here. I want them to experience us, and the world is coming together.'
