The first official trailer for the highly anticipated film version of Judy Blume's beloved book Are You There God? It's Me Margaret was shared on Thursday.

In the clip Hollywood heavyweights Rachel McAdams, 44, and Kathy Bates, 74, are seen bantering. The coming-of-age adaptation also introduces 14-year-old newcomer Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret.

The two-minute-long promotional preview opens with a nod to the novel - which was originally published in 1970 - as a subtitle reads: 'For over 50 years one iconic book has connected generations.'

It continues, 'Now it's finally coming to the big screen,' as it simultaneously hones in on a private moment in which Fortson's character Margaret sheepishly reviews her reflection in a full-length mirror.

Fortson is heard in a voiceover reciting the eponymous line, 'Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.'

Next she sits in an auditorium with her classmates as they settle in for a health class focusing on their 'changing bodies.'

The pre-teens are visibly perturbed as they learn about puberty and menstrual cycles via a presentation on a projector.

While b-roll from various scenes flash across the screen, the voiceover continues with Margaret pleading, 'Please, just do this one thing for me.'

The main character is then shown on her knees with her hands in prayer position as she prays, 'Just let me be normal and regular like everybody else. Just please, please, please, please...'

Kelly Fremon Craig wrote and directed the film, with a blessing from Judy, who's now 84.
