Em Rusciano spoke up on Thursday about New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's shocking resignation.

The radio host, 43, praised the popular politician, 42, for her courage in stepping down to take care of her own wellbeing.

In an Instagram video, she said she could never see a male world leader taking the initiative to step down and 'relinquish the power' as Ms Ardern did.

'Much is going to be written over the coming days, weeks, months, about Jacinda Ardern deciding to not seek a third term as New Zealand's Prime Minister,' the comedian began.

'First of all, I applaud this decision so much. I just can't imagine her male counterpart realising that they just don't have the energy and passion to put into what that job takes, and being willing to relinquish the power it gives you and walk away from it.

'I just can't imagine that happening. But also it has made me so emotional because I understand the sentiment.'

Rusciano went on to say 'a lot of tired women' will relate to Ms Ardern's retirement speech.

'And don't be bought into "women can't have it all" or "she's giving up her career for family". Whatever. All bulls**t. Today she was very courageous as a world leader and I love her,' she finished.

Moments later, Rusciano shared a tweet to Instagram
